Dear Sec 3s,
Here are some tips to share:
I am not sure whether you have been to the new HTA Range Complex before but unlike what was taught previously, cadets no longer need to adjust their distance from the target as all this is now AUTOMATED. They just need to pin the firing board up, clamp it down to secure the board, take the ear mufflers from the left hand side on the bullet-proof glass screen and the eye goggles from the right hand side of their respective positions.
RANGE PROCEDURES/WORDS OF COMMAND:
*Command 1: Detail pick up gun
*Command 2: Detail load and ready
*Command 3: Detail at 9 metres, 6 rounds, at your own time, own target, FIRE!
*Command 4: Detail unload gun, load and ready.
*Command 5: Detail at 15 metres, 12 rounds, Load another 6 rounds when you are finished with the first 6. at your own time, own target, FIRE!
*Command 6: Detail unload and show/report clear
*Command 7: Detail put down gun and fall out
Depending on the Instructor, commands may vary but procedure will still be about the same so just listen to instructions OR ELSE you will get SHOT by the Range Instructors real bad!
MARKSMANSHIP TECHNIQUES:
(1) Top of front sight level/parallel with the top of the rear sight, with equal line of light on either side of rear sight.
***(2) MOST IMPTLY: DO NOT anticipate recoil, just stay in position and let the recoil follow through while maintaining one's body stance and quickly re-adjust your aiming.
The recoil only happens
after the bullet has been fired, so even if there is recoil, it wun affect your aiming cos by then the bullet is already out of the revolver!
(3) Do not bend too far backwards or forward.
(4) Have a stable stance (one leg behing preferably to support)
(5) DO NOT grip the revolver too hard, just wrap your non shooting hand around the grip will do as support.
(6) Target must be hazy, front sight must be sharp.
(7) Aim at the chest level, so that shots that are shot will mostly gather around the chest area. (The Box)
(8) Double ACTION Firing / Trigger control - Follow through. (Control the trigger and don't fire just by pressing hastily)
What is Double Action?:
Press the trigger till the cocking hammer moves backwards, take a last aim and ensure everything (meaning the frontsight and rearsight are in line/parallel) is in line then press the trigger fully.
**DO NOT RUSH through the shooting and REMEMBER: DON'T EVER BE AFRAID OF THE REVOLVER or RECOIL because you are the one controlling the revolver, not vice versa!
It is essential for the cadets to know the following:
(a) parts of a revolver
(b) loading and unloading
(c) understanding the marksmanship principles and shooting techiniques when using the weapon.
SAFETY RULES AND PRECAUTIONS:
The 3 MOST ESSENTIAL rules that we're taught in the Police Force are:
(1)
Treat all guns as if they were loaded.
(2)
Never point a firearm at anyone or anything unless you are justified to do so.
(3)
Finger should always be out of the trigger guard.
Simply just remember "TNF"
Other important precautions are:
(4) When loading or reloading weapons, the muzzle must be pointed at an angle of 45 degrees downrange
(5) Never anticipate a command and listen to the Instructors' instructions at all times ETC.....
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE THE SHOOT:
(1) Introduce parts and safety rules.
(2) How to break open revolver and load (check the hand and fingering)
(3) How to unload using the extractor rod
(4) Practice "Show clear" or "report clear" position
(5) Go through sequence of shoot (Command and Action)
(6) Gun malfunction exercise
(7) Marksmanship Techniques / Aiming
(8) Show cadets how to hang up target correctly.
**For people especially girls who have no strength to press the trigger, can buy the hand grip trainer OR crush newspapers.
*To prevent your hands from being clipped by the trigger, ensure that the middle section of your index finger is in contact with the middle portion of the trigger when firing and release the trigger
slowly (Trigger control as elaborated above)
You may want to put on a plaster if your hand has been clipped and it doesn't hinder you!
Ok, that's all folks and all the best for you MARKSMANSHIP TEST!!
