POLICE IMPERSONATOR NABBED
Police arrested a 35-year-old Chinese man on 17 September 2008 for stealing handphones by pretending to be a police officer.
2 In the commission of the crime, the suspect would approach young students and identify himself as a CID officer by flashing a card at them. He would then demand for their mobile phones on the pretext of checking them and flee with the phones thereafter. He is believed to be involved in 4 such cases at the Bukit Merah, Redhill and Henderson housing estates.
3 The suspect’s identity was eventually established through enquiries and investigative efforts. On 17 September 2008, officers staked out the suspect's haunt at Jln Membina and arrested him at about 2:00 pm. A SIM card was also recovered from him.
4 The suspect will be charged in court on Friday, 19 September 2008. Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon, commended the officers for their dedication, team spirit and good investigative skills resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

OUR EXPERIENCE @
NATIONAL CAMP 2008
(Written By: Hazel Yong & Lim Yang Yee)
The biannually organized National Camp was held this year from the 11th August 2008 to 14th August 2008. The theme for this year’s camp was ‘Nurturing Youth@ World. Singapore’ with its intent of moulding youths of today into rugged individuals with the objective of building bonds and ties of friendship among the all 9 uniformed Group Organizations of Singapore.
this is the ferry we took(:
Upon arrival at the NPCC camp resilience, we were overwhelmed with the amount of participants that greeted us as a total amount of 750 participants took part in this camp. Being split into our individual divisions, we were being issued our camp tee-shirts. There were a total of 10 divisions with each division being taken charge of by officers from different uniformed groups. Following that was the declaration of the opening ceremony of the camp by our President, Mr. S R Nathan. Our adventure soon started right after lunch.
an ice breaker game after lunch(:
HIGHLIGHTS OF CERTAIN INTERESTING ACTIVITIES WE PARTICIPATED IN
Water Confidence Jump (Jetty Jump)
This activity requires us to overcome our fear not just of heights but also fears of the deep blue sea. This activity hence builds our confidence level, motivating us to do things which we had previously thought to be impossible.
CPR and AED
Another skill that we learnt was how to operate CPR.(cardio-pulmonary resuscitation). Having learn this, we would be able to provide early first aid to any person when required. Apart from that, we have also learnt how to operate the AED which allows us to analyse a person’s heart rhythm after the basic CPR. As such, this skill would come into good hand during emergency situation.
Archery
The most important factor about Archery was to train our mind to keep focus at all times. It may seem to be an easy activity but we didn’t know that actually a considerable amount of energy is required to even draw the arrow until we experienced it ourselves! We also learnt how to adjust our angle of shooting to hit the bull’s eye. This teaches us to change our method of handling things in order to reach our goal.
Kayaking
This activity taught us how to paddle the kayaks and negotiate them across the waters via various strokes and moves. While using a double kayak, we are supposed to work in pairs and coordinate our movements so that the kayak will move in the direction that we wanted it to. Thus, kayaking not only promotes a thrilling outdoor experience but also promotes the importance of teamwork.
Flight Simulator
Flight simulator game recreates an experience of flying an airplane. From the flight simulator games, we learnt how real planes fly, and learnt to appreciate the flight instruments. We even got a chance to use a computerized programmed to experience how flying in the air is like.
Nature Walk
The nature walk aims to increase our awareness of the surroundings and also to appreciate the nature more. By exploring the woods around us, our five senses were sharpened to observe the nature’s beauty as we participate in the various games. These activities not only help us to develop inter-personal relationships, but also promote team-building and leadership skills.
(These are not all the activities that we participated in, just sharing a few key examples)
All in all, the both of us had a fruitful and enjoyable camp. Loads of new friendships were forged and the camp also provided us the opportunity to learn more about on-goings about other CCA groups. As we all know, all good things must come to an end. As the 4th and final day arrived, strong devotions of emotions could be sensed in the atmosphere as we bade goodbye to our friends that we made through out the camp. Perhaps a few years down the road, we may not remember about all that happened during the camp, but we will always remember that we have once been part of the National Camp 2008.
